F.A.Q. – frequently asked questions

Do you have questions regarding our courses, times, procedures or slopes? Then take a look here first. You will find quick answers to most of your questions here. If your topic has not yet been clarified here, just send us an email and we will usually answer you shortly.

Is the lift price already included in the course price?

No. You have to buy the lift tickets yourself. Due to the Corona crisis and with the great help of our partners, you could still get tickets here.

When do the lifts in the Sauerland start?

Our season usually starts in mid to late November, depending on snow conditions. The months with the best snow conditions are December, January and February. Our snowboard courses usually start in mid-December. If it starts earlier, you can find the information on our website.

What if it doesn’t snow?

Fortunately, we don’t need natural snow here. It is nice when the trees are white, but due to the countless snow cannons on almost all slopes, it is sufficient if there are freezing temperatures for a few days. On average, it is around 8 degrees colder in Winterberg than in Dortmund or Cologne. So when it’s 6 degrees in Cologne, you can be sure that the lifts are running here.

What if it rains?

True to the motto “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”, we also train when it rains. As long as there is enough snow on the slopes, there is training. For beginners it is often a bit more comfortable even in the rain, as the snow becomes softer and you don’t fall as hard 😉

At what age can you start snowboarding?

We don’t have a minimum age, but a minimum size. You should be 1m tall and be able to go to the toilet on your own. Our special children’s boards start at 90cm and the smallest shoes are from size 21. Children under 7 should also have a parent nearby.

What should you watch out for in children’s courses?

Our experience over many years has shown that group courses only make sense from the age of 7. For younger kids, lessons take the form of private lessons with a maximum of 2 students per teacher. In general, it should be noted that something can only be conveyed if the teacher is listened to and his instructions are followed. In extreme cases, the teacher has the right to exclude disruptive students from the group.

Why Stylefish and not a local ski school?

In contrast to many local ski schools that also offer snowboard lessons, we are a pure snowboard school! We specialize in exactly this and focus on optimal learning success. We ourselves gave snowboarding lessons in various ski schools 20 years ago and recognized early on that there was a lot to be improved. In our opinion it is not possible to teach a group of 15 students to snowboard within 2 hours. For us, it’s not about selling all those dropping out a ski course at the end, but rather we strive to make learning as easy as possible with a well-thought-out school system. Our years of experience have shown that just about anyone who really wants to can learn this wonderful sport. In a maximum of 3 days! We are so convinced of this that we guarantee success on it.

When does the guarantee of success apply?

We give a guarantee of success on our 3-day Oberfett packages. This means that if you are not cornering after your course, you can extend it at our expense until it works. The prerequisite for this is that you have practiced every three days with our special Burton “Learn-to-ride” school material and have participated in all exercises. If you would like to extend the course, just let us know on the last day (your teacher will usually recommend this to you), and we will plan you for another day. For days of repetition we only charge you a reduced rental price.

What time do the courses start?

Our group courses start in the morning at 9 a.m. and usually end around 12.30 p.m., and in the afternoon at 1 p.m. and end at 4.30 p.m. In between, there is usually a half-hour break at around 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The meeting is always one hour before the start in the school station! Private lessons usually take place in blocks of two hours (one hour is only worthwhile for drivers who are already good and only need a little fine-tuning, otherwise we strongly recommend booking 2 hours!), Mostly from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Would you like private lessons earlier? This is also possible, but we need a binding reservation 2 – 3 days in advance, as we will then schedule an additional teacher for you.

Can the course material continue to be used after the course?

Our rental prices are always valid for whole days, i.e. if your course ends at 12.30 p.m., you can continue practicing on your own afterwards. With our “Oberfett” and “Fett” packages, you get the material for the entire 2 or 3 days. If you want to rent it after the 3 days have ended, we will charge you a special price.

How early do I have to register?

In general, it is helpful to be able to plan as early as possible. If you know when you will be in Winterberg or Willingen, let us know and we will schedule you. As a rule, our courses start every Friday and Saturday. Daily during the holidays! However, especially during the winter holidays, there is a risk that we will be fully booked. We therefore recommend that you make a reservation in advance. Either by e-mail, using our contact form or directly on site in our school reception. Private lessons as well as technique and freestyle courses have to be booked a few days in advance, as we have special teachers come for this. Our taster courses usually start every day and can be booked on site.

Which course is right for me?

Are you a total beginner? Then we recommend our “Oberfett Package”. This gives you everything you need to get started. 3 days of instruction in a group incl. Rental and on top, there’s our guarantee of success. Are you not in the mood for a group? No problem! You can also simply book a private tutor. This is a bit more expensive, but you will get the full attention of the teacher and you will probably learn much faster. Here we recommend 2 blocks of 2 hours each on two consecutive days. Then you have the opportunity in between to deepen what you have learned and dream of it overnight. If you can already do a few curves and would like to book an advanced course, then we also recommend 2 blocks of 2 hours of private lessons on two consecutive days. Our experience has shown that it often makes no sense to train complete advanced courses in a group, as the performance gap usually varies greatly and therefore optimal learning success cannot be guaranteed
